Founded in 2015 by Zhanna Nemtsova, daughter of the murdered politician Boris Nemtsov, in order to preserve the heritage of her father as well as to promote the values of freedom, human rights and education. The foundation awards scholarships to journalists, human rights and civil activists and organizes various education programs including the master program on Russian studies at the Charles University in Prague. Since 2016, the foundation also awards the Boris Nemtsov Prize for Courage to people who have shown exceptional courage in fighting for democracy and freedom.
