The application of "Falun gong" practice and distribution of the book "Zhuan Falun", listed in the Federal list of extremist literature Falun-gong is a religious movement, which first appeared in China in 1990's. Its basis combines Chinese exercises called cigun with elements of Buddhism, Daoism, Confucianism, and other traditional beliefs. At the end of 1990's its work was prohibited in The Republic of China. Supporters of this Falun-gong movement faced massive repressions, initiated by the chinese authorities.

Since 2015, this status can be assigned to foreign and international non-governmental organizations that, in the opinion of the Russian government, pose a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order of the Russian Federation, the defense capability of the country, or state security.
