The American organization “Global Mission to Rescue Persecuted Falun Gong Practitioners” provides assistance to practitioners of the Chinese spiritual practice of Falun Gong. Falun Gong is a religious movement that emerged in China in the early 1990s. It is based on Chinese qigong gymnastics combined with elements of Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, as well as traditional folk beliefs. In the late 1990s, the movement was banned in the PRC. The Chinese authorities launched widespread persecution against Falun Gong practitioners.
