Since 1996, the Northern Environmental Coalition has been engaged in preserving the Karelian forests in the most intact form. The scope of activity also included the dissemination of the principles of careful forest management with the preservation of the biological diversity of flora and fauna and the creation of new specially protected natural territories. The organization defined the purpose of its activity as 'assistance to the identification, preservation of valuable forests and sustainable forest management in the Republic of Karelia'.
