The International Foundation for the Development of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East 'Batani' was founded in 2004 at the initiative of the managers of the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East, as well as the Danish organization TGK Consult. The mission of the foundation is to protect the rights of small indigenous peoples of the North by informing, educating and engaging representatives of small peoples of the North in the political and economic life of Russia and beyond.

In 2016, the organization was classified as a 'foreign agent', and a year later, the Batani foundation was liquidated by a ruling of Zamoskvoreckiy District Court of Moscow. The Foundation decided to register its activities as a non-governmental organization on the territory of the USA.
