Environmentalist, international coordinator of the Rivers Without Borders environmental coalition. The organization is engaged in the protection of river and lake ecosystems, in particular, in Siberia and the Far East.

Simonov has lived in China for 14 years and is an expert on environmental safety issues within the Chinese global “Belt and Road” program. In 2013, he received the prestigious Wheatley Foundation’s Wildlife Achievement Award from the Royal Geographical Society of London. In 2020, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation awarded him the title of Excellence in Nature Conservation for his success in the protection of transboundary wetland ecosystems.
