Sverdlovsk Memorial was founded in 1999 as a regional organization of the International Memorial. His activities were aimed at researching political repressions in the USSR and modern Russia (mainly in the Urals and in particular in the Sverdlovsk region), disseminating information about them and promoting the rehabilitation of repressed persons and their descendants.
