The US-registered World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong is dedicated to helping and supporting practitioners of the Chinese spiritual practice Falun Gong. Falun Gong is a religious movement that emerged in China in the early 1990s. It is based on Chinese qigong gymnastics combined with elements of Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, as well as traditional folk beliefs. In the late 1990s, the movement was banned in the PRC. The Chinese authorities launched widespread persecution against Falun Gong practitioners.
