Since 2013, she has been engaged in art activism: she held environmental and feminist exhibitions, an anti-militarist festival and founded the creative association "Rodina", which existed for five years. Later she taught Russian at the Red Cross, and after the program was closed in 2018, she launched the Russian as Simple project - free Russian language lessons for adult migrants and refugees. In recent years, she has been increasingly engaged in feminist art: in 2019, she released two children's books of feminist fairy tales.

Information for the possible inclusion of Daria Apakhonchich in the register of mass media "foreign agents" has come to the Ministry of Justice from the Prosecutor General's Office and Roskomnadzor. With the help of Center E, the Prosecutor's Office checked the flow of funds in Apakhonchich's bank accounts and sent a certificate of her foreign financing to the Ministry of Justice. Her lawyer said that the account numbers are not specified in the certificate, and the word "about" is used in writing the amount. The prosecutor's office also mentioned that Apakhonchich had disseminated "information materials of a political nature" on the Internet. In addition, according to the Ministry, Apakhonchich posted materials on the websites of Radio Svoboda, previously was listed as a "foreign agent". Apakhonchich has noted that the status was given to her because of salaries from a French college and the Red Cross, fees for festivals and other transfers, and "political activities" found in her posts and reposts.
